Another Delay!? PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 03 July 2009 12:43

I'm not confirming this but I am putting the possibility out there. My release dates are always estimated by me working up to the last minute so I often forget to include time to really go over things and add extra features. This time I was wondering if one track of music would be good enough to fill in what could be a relatively large stage. This left open the process of making more music which would take a while (for me at least) also I was thinking about a really epic boss fight (which I also don't have music for) that really showed off more of the games personality. The problem is none of that has been planned because I thought the test build would be........... a test build! I guess the end result will be a game akin to the current releases and more.

So Incomplete Schedule + Feature Hunger + Me being Lazy = Not a good Sign. Why do I even make dates anymore....

I was completely undecided when I should release the demo but after looking things over I decided to make the release date July 24th. That date is the same date I released Samba of the Wolves about 4 years back. Time sure passes by fast.

Unless some HUGE mysterious bug or something appears I don't expect the game to be pushed back again.

TechniqueAnnouncing new features beforehand always feels like spoiling the game to me. Although I'll admit there aren't many people keeping track of this I still like for everything to hit at once. This post is to say I will not be posting any more updates on new features cause honestly I don't think anyone is interested without footage. From here on out future updates will be either series related, progress related, or something miscellaneous.

The picture on the right is of the new "technique system". I'm still working on it and this picture probably doesn't say much but I'll post it anyway. : j

The website looks a little barren without any screenshots but working on gameplay usually leaves me with nothing new to show.

Quick-Time Events are nothing new. Although they've become nothing short of common as of late, they've been around over a decade. I first started using QTEs in Dream Master in 2005. They were easy to spot, easy to avoid, and a bit out of place in the game but they were there. Tandem Tales handled QTEs with much more finesse than its predecessor and you couldn't get through the whole game without hitting a good deal of them.

The key difference in my use of QTEs and the others is I use mine during gameplay rather than cut scenes. I'll note that Resident Evil 4 & 5 use it for both. I'd like the series to be noted for three things: fighting, reflex, and intelligent puzzles. I'm way off the radar with the last one but I'm getting pretty close with the other two. In order to separate myself from the herd I found it necessary to work a lot harder on  QTEs than previously intended. The delay should help with that.

Although I haven't  completed the task, you can expect more variety and more style with QTEs. I'm almost willing to say this may earn me a crown.
Sample Example: Choice Event - You will be given 2 or more options, pick the correct option within the time limit.

I've thought about it for a while and it made sense to me to push a little further with the test build. In fact, I'd like my future actions to be determined by the test build. There will likely be a few old features missing such as a story, narration and possibly even a boss battle but I believe I can send a message focusing on the essentials.

What I hope to have is a long, entertaining demo that supersedes the previous titles even without the bells and whistles. This will require me to go into July.

If what I have on paper is done correctly, this one should go uncontested for the crown in the collection.
