It's amazing how a goal so seemingly simple gets convoluted with a bunch of knobs and tools people generally aren't interested in. Is it really so hard to hide the advance functionality.

Saying that reminds me of that Mario paint music tool for windows.... I haven't used it but I wonder if you could export the midi and then dress it up inside a different program. I may have to try that out.

I tried FL Studio Demo, and it has an appealing appearance and tons of sub-tools - they need a lot of knowledge to be used. Linux MultiMedia Studio has a simpler interface than FL, but crashes often for me. I also tried musagi which is straight-forward though primitive in sound generation.

I would say digital music is quite delicate.

Thank you for the info. I saw a sudden chance to ask so I took it! :D Since my previous MIDI's can be loaded I can start with replacing the Windows sound with something more exotic.

I'm probably either the best person or the worst person to ask such a question : D! Making music is another thing self-taught so I'm likely to be extremely rough around the edges.

First I began playing around with FL Studio which is at http://flstudio.image-line.com/ . I think there's a free version but can't remember. I used it to load midis which I found at http://www.vgmusic.com . It was extremely useful to really study the structure of music.

Eventually ended up buying the program and a electronic keyboard. To this day I still can't really play the piano or read music so the keyboard didn't help much but it still helps me with little things like looking for a sound.

I don't remember any other applications although I've tried dozens of them. Fruity loops was kind of a pain to learn and there are still dozens of switches I don't know about. If I find something like fruity loops but less bloated, I'll make sure to post.

Speaking of music, hey can I ask something? I have only used a MIDI sequencer and I have never made any other music. Have you tried some music software to recommend, or should I think of something special before learning such software?

All I know is there are sound libraries that can be plugged into sequencers (or was it trackers), hmm ^_^
